Course program
GBR (Guided Bone Regeneration) in Everyday Practice
6 online lessons
Concrete indications to implement GBR in your daily life routine to manage common peri-implant defects.
Who the course is for:
The course is recommended to implantologists and dentists at all levels of experience who often deal with peri-implant minor defects and want to treat them properly.
Dr Filippo Fontana welcomes you to GBR in Everyday Practice, the video course focusing on the management of common peri-implant defects through bone regeneration techniques.
The course aims to provide participants with the theoretical knowledge and practical indications necessary to immediately and easily implement GBR in their daily clinical routine.
Bone regeneration is no longer a prerogative of implantologists, but has become an ordinary dental procedure. For this reason, even if you are a general dentist, you need to know at least one surgical technique to implement bone volume.
While GBR is not the only effective surgical technique to regenerate the bone, it is the most indicated for the routine management and treatment of minor bone defects.
Topics covered in the course:
Bone regeneration protocols with resorbable membranes;
How to design a flap;
How to properly fix a membrane;
The importance of autologous bone graft;
Incision and suturing techniques.
At the end of the course, you will be able to:
Analyze different types of bone defects;
Choose the proper donor site and prepare the receiver site;
Collect bone in a minimally invasive way;
Pharmacologically manage the patient;
Choose between resorbable vs non-resorbable membranes;
Manage the most common peri-implant defects.

Indications in Guided Bone Regeneration
Here you can watch a five-minute fragment of the lesson
In this first video lecture, Dr. Fontana gives participants the basics of GBR. Starting from biological principles up to the differences between resorbable and non-resorbable membranes, passing through the creation and the maintenance of a protected space thanks to which bone regeneration takes place.
In particular, the following topics are covered in this lecture:
Duration: 57 min
In particular, the following topics are covered in this lecture:
- Biological principles in GBR
- Which are the most common peri-implant defects
- Selection criteria between resorbable and non-resorbable membranes
- Focus on the clinical application of resorbable membranes
- Characteristics of a membrane
- Classification of bone defects
- How to maintain the protected space
Duration: 57 min
Surgical technique step-by-step
Here you can watch a five-minute fragment of the lesson
During this lecture, all the steps of the GBR surgical protocol with resorbable membranes are illustrated. Specific attention is paid on flap design and membrane stabilization and Dr. Fontana exemplifies each step through clinical videos.
In particular, in this lecture the following topics are treated:
Duration: 57 min
In particular, in this lecture the following topics are treated:
- Key points of GBR with resorbable membranes
- How to use membranes to achieve predictable implant outcome
- Flap design and elevation
- Proper passivation of the flap
- Membrane stabilization
- How to suture without tension
- Patient management after the surgery
Duration: 57 min
Minimally invasive autologous bone harvesting
Here you can watch a five-minute fragment of the lesson
In this lecture Dr. Fontana speaks about the rationale behind autologous bone harvesting. The objective of this presentation is to give participants tips and tricks to perform the harvest in a minimally invasive way.
In particular, this lecture covers the following topics:
Duration: 55 min
In particular, this lecture covers the following topics:
- Which type of graft should be used (bone cloth, coagulum, biomaterials)
- How to reduce the invasiveness of intraoral bone harvesting
- Which instruments should be used for harvesting
- The benefits of a resorbable membrane combined with autologous chips and biomaterials
Duration: 55 min
Surgical procedures
Here you can watch a five-minute fragment of the lesson
In this lecture Dr. Fontana reinforces the key points of GBR, already anticipated in the previous presentations. Two clinical cases are shown, in which sinus lift and bone augmentation are reached thanks to GBR surgical protocol.
In particular, in this lecture the following topics are treated:
