It is not only the quantity, but also the quality of the soft tissue around implants that will lead to the long-term stability and success.
This presentation will begin with the foundation of soft tissue healing and further lead to the principles of soft tissue surgeries. The clinical applications of soft tissue augmentation in implant dentistry will be reviewed. A variety of surgical techniques will be introduced to treat different types of soft tissue defects. Concepts and techniques for preventive soft tissue management are also incorporated into this lecture. This presentation will focus on clinical decision-making and surgical techniques by which comprehensive guidelines for soft tissue management can be established.

Dr. Jerry Lin
Jerry C. Lin received his certificate in periodontology and Doctor of Medical Science in Oral Biology from Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Lin is currently teaching as an assistant professor in School of Dentistry, Taipei Medical University and as a clinical instructor in National Taiwan University Hospital. He is also involved in the periodontal literature review course at School of Dentistry, National Taiwan University. Dr. Lin is also the board director of Academy of Dental Implantology, ROC. In addition to his commitment to dental education, Dr. Lin has an ongoing career path as a periodontist in his own private practice in Taipei and as a mentor in several private dental training courses. He is also the founder and director of the Institute for Advanced Dental Education (iADE) in Taipei. He has been invited as a guess speaker in numerous dental conferences.

Dr. David Kim
Dr. David Kim received his dental degree (DDS) from the University of Maryland Dental School, and completed his periodontology training and Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) in oral biology from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Currently, as an Associate Professor at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, he serves as the Division Head of Periodontology, the Director of the Advanced Graduate Program in Periodontology and the Director of Continuing Professional Education. Dr. Kim is a past recipient of both Distinguished Junior and Senior Faculty awards from Harvard. Dr. Kim’s clinical and research interests have been on the use of innovative concepts, technologies and biomaterials to enhance intraoral soft and hard tissue formation, especially by incorporating the tissue engineering concept to repair and regenerate soft and hard tissue volume for patients requiring dental implants to replace missing teeth. He has published 101 manuscripts and 25 book chapters.
